If you’re like most gym owners, having data isn’t the issue. It’s finding the right way to access and use that data to create a solid action plan. And that’s where an MCP connector comes in.
Today, we’re talking about what an MCP connector is in plain terms, and what Wodify’s MCP connector can do for your gym. We also spoke with Jason Fernandez (“Fern”), Business Development Coach from Best Hour of Their Day, and co-host of the Best Hour of Their Day podcast. He shared with us how he uses Wodify’s MCP connector to run a tighter business.
What is an MCP Connector?
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s a shared set of rules, introduced by Anthropic in late 2024, that lets AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT plug into other software and pull information from it. Think of it like a universal charger for AI: because everyone builds to the same standard, one connector works across multiple AI tools.
What Wodify’s MCP Connector Does
Wodify’s MCP connector links your Wodify account to your AI assistant (e.g. Claude, ChatGPT) so you can ask questions about your gym in plain English and get answers pulled directly from your gym’s data.
Once it’s connected, your AI assistant can read your gym’s reports to find things like member information, attendance patterns, retention metrics, risk indicators, class data, financial information, etc. This is a big step up from what traditionally looked like exporting a CSV and pasting it into ChatGPT. You’re asking questions about the data pulled specifically from your fitness business, so the answer reflects what’s happening right now instead of whatever you exported last month.
That allows you to request things like:
- “Using my gym’s brand voice, write a five-email campaign to win back former members.”
- “Look at our team’s shared Google calendar and update the weekly 9am classes in the Wodify app based on who is covering that day.”
- “Pull up the Google Doc I created with newsletter topics and suggest five other ideas to add to the list. Then provide me a list of all clients who came to 12 or more classes last month so I can include a shoutout in the newsletter.”
Wodify’s MCP connector is easy to set up, and the Wodify team can walk you through your options.

What’s the Difference Between Ask Wodify and the MCP Connector?
The short version:
- Ask Wodify is an AI tool built into Wodify that knows your gym’s data and can take action and make direct updates in your account, such as send emails, cancel and add memberships, create tasks, update your coaching schedule.
- The MCP connector allows you to connect your preferred AI tool directly to your Wodify account data, and utilize the AI tool’s unique features like skills, memory, design tools, etc.
A Quick Word on Data
Your client data comes hand-in-hand with their trust in you, so make sure you treat it that way. Only connect the AI tools your business has approved, keep access limited to the people who need it, and review what the AI gives you before you act on it.
How AI and the MCP Connector are Changing the Game
Fern spent years helping affiliate owners build better systems, so dove into a Q&A with him to find out how he believes gym owners should think about AI and MCP connectors, and where to start.
Q: You have said, “AI is not coming, it’s here.” Why is an MCP connector such a game-changer for gyms?
Most gym owners do not have a data problem. They have an access and action problem.
Their CRM already has leads, attendance, memberships, revenue, cancellations, and coach activity. But getting an answer usually means logging in, pulling a few reports, exporting a spreadsheet, and hoping they are looking at the right thing.
An MCP connector lets an owner ask useful questions in plain English and get answers from the system where the data actually lives. More importantly, it can turn those answers into the next action:
- “Who needs a follow-up today?”
- “Which new members have not attended enough in their first 30 days?”
- “What changed in cancellations this month?”
That is the game-changer. It shortens the distance between data, decision, and action.
AI does not replace the owner. It makes a good owner faster, more consistent, and less likely to miss the signals that matter.
Q: What reports do you recommend gym owners pull on a recurring basis and why?
Keep it simple. A gym owner should review a small scorecard every week:
- Lead flow and sales funnel: leads, consultations booked, show rate, close rate, and new members. This tells you whether the problem is demand, speed-to-lead, people not showing up, or your sales process.
- Retention and cancellations: cancellations, holds, reasons for leaving, and net member change. Growth without retention is just filling a leaking bucket.
- Attendance: overall attendance, but especially new-member attendance in the first 30, 60, and 90 days. Attendance is one of the earliest signs of whether somebody is actually going to stay.
- Revenue and average revenue per member: total recurring revenue, ARM, and overdue payments. Member count can look great while the business underneath it is getting weaker.
- At-risk members: people whose attendance has dropped, who have not attended after joining, or whose payment failed. This should become an outreach list—not just an interesting report.
The point is not to have more reports. Every number should lead to a decision, an owner, and a next action.
Q: What are the top three things gym owners should use an MCP connector for to save time?
First, use it to create a weekly operating scorecard. Instead of spending time manually assembling reports, ask for the few numbers that tell you what changed and where your attention needs to go.
Second, use it to build prioritized action lists: leads that have not been contacted, no-shows who need follow-up, new members who are not attending, and members whose attendance has fallen off. Give your staff a list they can work today.
Third, use it to investigate what is actually happening in the business instead of hunting through dashboards. “Why did net growth fall this month?” or “Which lead sources are producing actual members?” are much more useful questions than staring at raw data.y did net growth fall this month?” or “Which lead sources are producing actual members?” are much more useful questions than staring at raw data.

Q: What’s the biggest mistake you see gym owners make when they first start using AI tools?
They use AI to create more “stuff” instead of a better operating system.
You can have AI write 50 social posts, build a complicated dashboard, or automate messages. None of that fixes a weak sales process, unclear ownership, bad data, or inconsistent follow-up. AI will make a broken system faster if you let it.
Start with one business problem that keeps showing up every week. Make sure the data is accurate. Decide what good looks like and who owns the next action. Then use AI to remove the manual work around that process.
And do not hand over the keys blindly. Owners still need to review the output, protect member data, and stay responsible for decisions that affect people.
Q: A year from now, what does a gym running on AI day-to-day actually look like?
It does not look like a robot running the gym. It looks like fewer things falling through the cracks.
The owner starts the week with a clear scorecard: what changed, what is off track, and what matters most. The sales team knows exactly which leads need attention. Coaches know which new members need a check-in and which members may be drifting.
The owner can ask questions of the business without spending hours pulling reports or building spreadsheets.
The best version of this is not automation for automation’s sake. It is a more personal gym, because the staff spends less time chasing data and more time having the right conversations with the right people at the right time.
One More Thing:
Fern added, “I used AI to clean up what I actually said here. That is the practical use case most people miss. This would have taken me 15–20 minutes to type, organize, and polish. Instead, I talked through the ideas, had AI structure and clean them up, and got it done in about three minutes. That is not replacing your thinking. It is removing the blank page, the typing, and the cleanup work so you can spend more time on the parts only you can do.”
Putting Your MCP Connector to Work This Week
What stuck with us from Fern’s answers is how unflashy the best use of AI is. He isn’t talking about robots at the front desk. He’s talking about a simple action plan that’s backed by data.
An MCP connector is what makes that realistic for a fitness business that doesn’t have a full-time operations manager on staff. If you use Wodify as your gym management software, you can start small:
- Connect Wodify’s MCP connector to Claude or ChatGPT.
- Ask for the weekly scorecard Fern laid out: leads, retention, attendance, revenue, and at-risk members.
- Turn one answer into an action list and assign it to someone on your team.
- Ask the same questions next Monday and see what moved.
Do that for a month and you’ll have a clearer read on your business than most owners get from a quarter of pulling reports. The data was always there, but now you can turn it into a plan.
Worth noting: An MCP Connector allows you to connect your preferred AI tool directly to your Wodify account data, and utilize the AI tool’s unique features like skills, memory, design tools, and more. And for Wodify users, Ask Wodify is an AI tool built into Wodify that knows your gym’s data and can take action and make direct updates in your account, such as send emails, cancel and add memberships, create tasks, update your coaching schedule.
