One year, I tried boycotting Black Friday at the studios I managed. I figured our community would rally behind a small business taking a stand against discounts. They didn’t, and we closed out the year with revenue and growth numbers I’d rather not think about. That’s why I feel so strongly about Black Friday marketing for gyms, and helping you make a plan.

I ran a boutique fitness brand with nine locations for seven years. During that time, I tested just about every kind of Black Friday promotion out there. Eventually we landed on a repeatable approach that brought in an extra $100,000+ every year.

I believe a lot of that success came from the marketing strategy, which included so much more than just emails. Because we’re all bombarded with Black Friday emails all November long. And a great offer does nothing if it’s buried under a few hundred other others from airlines and shoe brands.

This post walks through Black Friday marketing for gyms: What channels to use, how often to send messaging, and what to say at each stage of a 7–10 day campaign. Plus, how to use email, SMS, phone calls, social, and your own gym floor to get the offer out there.

Black Friday Marketing for Gyms: 5 Tips

1. Start Planning Four to Six Weeks Out

The truth is, most gym owners wait too long before starting their Black Friday planning. Maybe the owner decides on the offer the week of and the coaches only hear about it when the offer is live. If you want to do it right, give yourself atleast four weeks of planning time. That’s enough to lock in your offer, set a sales goal, create any marketing materials, and make sure every person on your team can explain the deal in one sentence.

Two things I’d do early:

  • Block off a real brainstorm. Don’t tack Black Friday onto the end of a regular staff meeting. Give it its own hour, and ask your team to come in with ideas.
  • Write a one-page cheat sheet for staff. List the offer, terms, deadline, and FAQs to help your team. That way, when a coach gets asked about the deal mid-class, they shouldn’t have to guess.

2. Pick a Short Window

For small and mid-sized gyms without a dedicated marketing person, I’ve found 7–10 days is the sweet spot. Longer campaigns can tend to lose steam. And anything shorter won’t give you enough time to build up to the launch. For 2026, I’d run it Monday, November 23 through Sunday, November 29.

3. Over-Communicating is Key in Black Friday Marketing for Gyms

Your usual once-a-week email won’t hold up during the noisiest shopping week of the year. Plan to double or even triple how often you normally send. If that feels like a lot, keep in mind that the people who don’t want your offer will ignore it. And the people on the fence need more than one reminder before they commit.

While the campaign runs, pause everything else. Turn off nurture emails, hold your regular newsletter, and skip any other promos. You want one clear message with one call to action, so nothing competes with it.

4. Map Every Touchpoint Before Launch

Before day one, write out exactly when each email, text, post, and call goes out. Don’t forget to include who’s responsible for each touchpoint. When your entire Black Friday gym marketing strategy is planned out ahead of time, your messaging stays consistent and timely. And maybe even more importantly, you’ll avoid writing a last-minute scramble on Thanksgiving to tell your team what you’re doing.

Skip the blank spreadsheet. The Black Friday Playbook comes with a 10-day marketing plan template and a 4-week campaign planner you can copy and adjust for your gym. Get the free playbook.

5. Build Your Messaging Plan in Waves

If you send the same message at the same intensity for ten days straight, people stop seeing it. What worked for us was starting strong, easing off in the middle, and building again toward the end. Here’s how I’d recommend you set up your campaign.

3 Days Before Launch: Tease It

Send out a hint that something big is coming without giving away the offer. Examples include a countdown on Instagram stories, coaches mentioning “big news on Monday” during class announcements, and a one-line email teaser. All you’re trying to do with this is get people curious enough to open the launch email.

Send a teaser to clients three days before launch to let them know that a special Black Friday offer is coming.

Launch Day: Everywhere at Once

This is the one day to use every channel you have. Send the email, post on social, text your list, have coaches announce it before and after every class. Get creative. Ask your members to share it. If you only go all-out on one day of the campaign, make it this one.

Mid-campaign: Send Reminders

After the launch, pull back a bit. Mix up the delivery channels and send gentle nudges instead of daily blasts. The best reminders give people a reason to act now. For example, “We’ve already sold 30 of our 50 Black Friday special memberships.” If you set a hard limit on your offer (and you should), how many are left is your best reminder, and a great way to create urgency.

Final 48 Hours: Turn it Up

Turn it back up. Now is the time to send your “Only 2 days left” or “Just 5 class packs remaining” messages across email, text, and social. This is when people who’ve been thinking about it all week are forced to finally take action.

Final 12 Hours: Last call

This is your final push before the deadline. Plenty of buyers wait until the very end, so don’t go quiet on the last day just because they haven’t responded yet. A short, direct text or email with the link and the exact cutoff time is the play here.

Black Friday Marketing for Gyms: How to Use Each Channel

You don’t need a full marketing team to cover every channel. However, it’s important to know how to make the most impact on each channel.

Email: Mix Polished Blasts with Personal Notes

I recommend sending two different types of emails. Send these to your whole list and don’t forget your unconverted leads from the last 90 days. The first is a professional, polished promotion announcement (complete with graphic) to your whole list. The second is a plain-text note that reads like a coach reaching out personally: “Hey Sarah, I just wanted to make sure you saw the details about our Black Friday deal.” The personal ones are quicker to write, and they read like they came from someone your prospect has actually met.

SMS: Black Friday Marketing for Gyms is Driven by Urgency

Of all your marketing channels, texts are statistically the most likely to be seen. But sending too many is also one of the easiest ways to get people to unsubscribe. Therefore, save SMS for just a few high-impact days: launch day, the final countdown, and maybe one mid-campaign reminder. Keep each text to two sentences and end with a simple action, like “Reply YES and we’ll send you the link.”

Phone Calls: Give Your Staff a Script

Pick your hottest leads (recent trials and anyone who asked about pricing) and assign staff to call them personally. Give everyone the same script so the offer is explained the same way every time. These days, it’s more common than ever for people not to answer, so plan for a short voicemail too. If someone does pick up and presents objections, simply ask what’s holding them back. You’ll probably learn a lot from the answers, even from the people who say no.

Give your staff a script to make sales calls and leave voicemails about your Black Friday offer.

Website: One Offer, One Page

First, put a banner, pop-up, or homepage takeover on the main page of your site so nobody misses the big news. Second, create a single landing page that describes the offer and has a buy button. Remember, if someone lands on your site and has to hunt for the deal, you’ve probably lost them. By the way, if your site runs on Wodify Sites, you can add a banner or update your pricing page in just a few clicks.

Social: Post Organically and Boost Big Moments

Organic posts and Stories are great for showing prospective members what the real experience is like inside your gym. Keep in mind, people are likely to research your gym in various ways, and your Instagram grid gives them a great visual of what to expect, if you’re doing it right. You could also consider asking a local micro-influencer (or a well-connected member) to post teasers before your launch and share the offer on day one. And if you have a budget for ads, put it behind your launch-day and last-call posts, since those are the moments that drive sales.

In the Gym: Announcements and Signage

Your members are in your building every week, so don’t forget about the opportunity to spread the word inside your four walls. Have coaches announce the offer before and after class. Put up signage everywhere (yes, that includes the bathroom). If you use Kiosk+, Wodify Announcements can also push the promo onto the screens in your gym.

Black Friday Marketing for Gyms Starts Now

Whether you follow the plan outlined above or add some variations, there’s one thing to do no matter what. Start your Black Friday marketing plan at least four weeks in advance of launch date. Lock in your offer and dates, then outline the dates for every email, text, post, and call, with a name next to each one.

People who make exercise their New Year’s resolution start shopping in November, and a well-marketed Black Friday offer puts your gym in front of them before January. Set a goal for how many Black Friday sign-ups you think you can turn into long-term members. Not only will that help you judge the success of your campaign by that number, but you’ll have data for next year’s marketing strategy as well.
