Tracking HYROX workouts is different from tracking a regular strength or conditioning class. The format of the race doesn’t change: eight 1-kilometer runs alternating with eight stations, always in the same order. That consistency is what makes HYROX workouts so trackable, and why so many are currently drawn to competing in a HYROX race.
HYROX is expecting 1.5 million participants globally in 2026, based on recent interviews and industry estimates for the 2025/26 season, with sources putting 2025 at 650,000 athletes. The “World Series of Racing” has brought together a large, global community with extensive affiliate support and sponsorship from major brands such as Red Bull.
The great news for fitness business owners is that you can capitalize on the hype and use it to not only to increase gym revenue, but to boost retention as well. And once you build the right habits around tracking HYROX workouts and capturing the data, you can become the best HYROX studio in your market.
Here’s how to do it.

Why Tracking HYROX Workouts is Important
It’s not uncommon for gyms and studios to “stop at the finish line” when tracking HYROX workouts. What that means is simply keeping score of the total time it takes people to finish a full race, and not tracking anything else.
The truth is, HYROX workouts have three layers of data hiding within one finish time:
- Eight running splits
- Eight station splits (1,000m ski, 50m sled push, 50m sled pull, 80m burpee broad jumps, 1,000m row, 200m farmers carry, 100m sandbag lunges, 100 wall balls)
- Transition time between them (competitors call this the “roxzone”).
The stations and running distances are fixed. So when you only log the total total completion time, you lose the other information that shows how a client is improving, or where they’re stuck.

For gym owners, helping clients with tracking their HYROX workouts can actually be more about retention than performance data. An athlete who sees they cut 40 seconds off their sled push over eight weeks has a solid reason to keep showing up. That kind of motivation and progress keeps people coming back to your fitness business.
Tracking can also change your coaching and programming strategy as well. If the data shows the biggest area of improvement is wall balls, start there. Maybe it’s a change in your gym programming. Maybe you add some breathing and pacing drills into your coaching. Either way, you’re using data to direct your clients’ improvement.
And then there’s the community piece. Tracking HYROX workouts gives people an easy way to cheer each other on. And having a leaderboard can help spark some friendly competition among clients as well. Experienced owners will attest to a strong gym community being a foundation for growth.
What to Track in HYROX Workouts
Ready to start helping your clients track their HYROX workouts? At minimum, a solid tracking system captures the following:
- Running splits. Running makes up roughly half of a finisher’s total time. So a client that only tracks station numbers is missing a significant part of the full story.
- Station splits. Athletes should always track all eight stations. Over time, the data trends will show which stations offer the biggest areas of opportunity to make up time.
- Roxzone or transition time. Without tracking, most clients might perform well at both running and the stations, and not realize they’re losing time in transition.
- Total time. This one’s the obvious “full picture” and the only score recorded in an official HYROX race.
- Notes on technique or effort. A sled that drifted sideways or a pace that fell apart in the last 200 meters can explain anomalies in tracking HYROX workouts.
5 Best Practices for Your Tracking System
Here are five best practices to keep in mind when building your HYROX tracking system.
1. Run the same benchmark(s) on a set cadence.
There’s nothing wrong with creating benchmarks around some or all of the movements in a HYROX race. Just be sure that you’re repeating the exact same benchmark on your pre-determined cadence. If you change the workout (even slightly) every time you test it, you’ll have numbers that aren’t comparable.
One fun idea to consider is running or hosting a HYROX simulation race. Not only do sims create a clear goal for your clients in regard to tracking their HYROX workouts, they can generate new revenue and help build community.
2. Create separate divisions.
HYROX races have four divisions, in order to be accessible to everyone: Open, Pro, Doubles, and Relay. The HYROX website even offers a “Find My Level” guide. And because each division has its own standards, your training plan for clients should take that into account. From the weights to the leaderboard, make sure you’re building a framework that gives everyone a chance to feel successful.
3. Be specific when coaching HYROX workouts.
Coach based on the data, not the vibe. What does that mean? Think about the difference between these two coaching cues:
- “Push harder as you get close to the finish line.”
- “You lost 22 seconds in the roxzone between the wall balls and the finish line. Let’s see if we can cut that down.”
Feedback based on measurable data gives people something specific to focus on during their training. Plus, a cue like the latter gives them additional immediate feedback as to how their strategy went.

4. Avoid the most costly tracking mistakes.
The biggest mistake would be not tracking HYROX workouts at all. But as mentioned above, a close second would be only tracking the full race completion time. Chances are, your clients aren’t completing a full HYROX race all the time, so measurable benchmarks is a more realistic training strategy.
Lastly, don’t underestimate the importance of making notes for everything related to training. For example, let’s say a benchmark went well one day and completely sideways on another. It could be as simple as the athlete not getting a good night’s sleep or lacking hydration. Training notes can help to explain situations that might otherwise be confusing.
5. Choose software that makes the whole process easy.
Because tracking workouts is such a crucial piece of HYROX training, your life becomes a whole lot easier with the right gym management software. Sure, a training notebook would probably get the job done for clients. But then being able to easily access training info later on becomes a nightmare. Not to mention your clients would be missing out on the connection and community of the leaderboard and shared celebrations.
